ANTI RAGGING CELL

Giani Kartar Singh Memorial Government College Tanda has established Anti Ragging Cell in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Court of India and notification issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The purpose of this cell is to prevent, stop, and eliminate the practice of ragging, involving any form of verbal or written communication or behaviour that involves teasing, treating any student. Additionally, it aims to address unfair means or undisciplined activities by students, which may cause annoyance, hardship, psychological harm, or instil fear or apprehension.

OBJECTIVES

The Anti-Ragging Cell serves as a supervisory and advisory committee, dedicated to maintaining a Ragging Free Environment within the college campus. The key objectives of this cell include:

  1. Creating awareness among students about the dehumanizing effects inherent in the perverse act of ragging.

  2. Maintaining a constant watch and vigilance to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of ragging incidents.

  3. Taking prompt and stringent actions against reported incidents of ragging.

  4. Fostering a disciplined atmosphere by conveying a clear message that no form of ragging will be tolerated. All instances of ragging will be duly noted and met with appropriate consequences.

Anti-Ragging Policy

According to the UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational  Institutions, 2009, ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

  1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.

  2. Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.

  3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.

  4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.

  5. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.

  6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.

 

PROCEDURE/ MECHANISM


There are several strategies and mechanisms that our college might use to address such issues, including:

  1. Counselling Services: Providing counselling services for students who may be dealing with stress, anger, or mental health issues.

  2. Conflict Resolution Programs: Implementing programs that help students develop conflict resolution skills to handle disagreements and disputes more effectively.

  3. Code of Conduct: Establishing and enforcing a clear code of conduct that outlines acceptable behaviour on campus.

  4. Disciplinary Measures: Having a system in place to address and take appropriate disciplinary actions for students who engage in disruptive or aggressive behaviour.

  5. Educational Programs: Offering workshops or educational programs on anger management, stress reduction, and interpersonal communication.

  6. Peer Support: Creating peer support networks or mentorship programs where students can turn to their peers for guidance and support.

  7. Security Measures: Ensuring that there are security measures in place to respond promptly to any incidents and to maintain a safe campus environment.

The students have to submit a declaration against ragging at the time of admission which is laid down in the Prospectus in some detail. There has been no reported case of ragging in the College premises so far since the students remain under the watchful eyes of the authority and members of the Discipline Maintenance Committee during the college hours. GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL CELL

This committee functions as a crucial bridge connecting students, teachers, and the college administration. Its primary goal is to promote and uphold the well-being of students by establishing a mechanism for addressing their grievances. Students are encouraged to bring forth any issues, disputes, complaints, or suggestions related to academics or the college environment. The committee pledges to maintain the confidentiality of students, fostering an environment where they can approach the grievance redressal cell without any apprehension.

The committee plays a pivotal role in  organizing various programs aimed at raising awareness among students about social, national, and environmental issues. Additionally, it contributes to maintaining a positive atmosphere and fostering strong relationships between students and faculty. The committee ensures swift and appropriate actions by liaising with faculty.

SC ST OBC Grievance Redressal Cell

SC, ST, OBC GREVANCE REDRESSAL CELL

In adherence to the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the institution has established an internal committee tasked with overseeing complaints related to caste-based discrimination from students, faculty members, and non-faculty members belonging to SC/ST/OBC communities. The committee's primary responsibility is to ensure that individuals within the institution refrain from any discriminatory actions against members of the SC/ST/OBC communities based on their social origin. It is imperative that no faculty members, non-faculty members, or students engage in any form of discrimination against any community or category.
