About Chemistry Department
The Department of Chemistry is one of the prestigious department of G.K.S.M. Govt. College ,Tanda Urmur. The department came into existence in 1951 since the establishment of college. Chemistry as a subject of study was introduced as General Course level from beginning of the college. From the very on set, the Department has continue to attract a large number of students every year. Students are mostly come from rural and semi rural background yet their performance have always been consistent. The Department always tries to provide basic and advanced facilities to students. The departmental infrastructure is continuous upgrade with constant monitoring. The faculty members of the department are highly enthusiastic and passionate about teaching as well as other departmental and college assignments. Laboratories have been well equipped with instruments like conductivity meter, pH meter, Colorimeter, Polarimeter with sodium lamp, Potentiometer, Abbe’s Refractometer, Centrifugal Machine, Electronic Balance etc. Our department also organised quiz, seminars, industrial tours, educational tours to enrich students with newer ideas and modern development in the subject, making them aware of the present day progress in the field of chemistry. These activities not only make student teacher relationship healthy but also boost up their confidence. Stock register, Student attendance and results, student profile, Teachers’ profile and other records are maintained and computed yearly on a regular basis. From the beginning, it has been the endeavour of the Department to maintain a close relation with students to ensure their all-round development.

Mission
We aim to provide the students with sound preparation for requirements of modern industry and provide competency, in basic academic research as well as a cohesive, clearly structured overview of Chemistry.

Digital Laboratories of Chemistry Department
There are two well-equipped practical laboratories for undergraduate practical classes to conduct inorganic, organic and physical chemistry practicals. Recently , the digital smart board installed in chemistry laboratory to provide high-definition visuals and interactive content, making it easier for students to understand complex concepts through dynamic visual aids and interactive multimedia. Digital boards are highly flexible, as they can be used for a wide range of teaching and learning activities, including presentations, quizzes, and group work.

Our department also organised science quiz competition ,seminars, industrial tours, educational tours to enrich students with newer ideas and modern development in the subject. The Department of Chemistry hosted a seminar on”Career Opportunities in Chemistry “ on 3 oct 2023 .
